Want to make easy homemade dessert? Try this banana split! Loaded with banana, ice creams, crushed peanuts, and caramel sauce.
The banana split is a dessert with a banana cut in half lengthwise then placed in a dish and topped with three scoops of ice cream, sauces, whipped cream, crushed peanuts, and maraschino cherries.
This banana split was a discovery by David Evans Strickler, a 23-year-old apprentice pharmacist at Tassel Pharmacy, Pennsylvania. At that time, he sold his ice cream for 10 cents, twice the price of other ice cream sundaes where Strickler worked. Although more expensive, the dessert is selling well. Until now his banana split is still popular.
The ingredients are very simple, they made instantly. In fact, if you don’t have time to make each thing, you can use the store-bought one. For the ice cream and sauce, you can use whatever flavor you like. In this recipe, I use vanilla, strawberry, chocolate ice cream, and caramel sauce.
How to make banana split:
Split a banana in a half lengthwise. Set aside. And then place three scoops chocolate ice cream, three scoops vanilla ice cream, and three scoops strawberry ice cream on a long and shallow plate. Place the banana beside the right and the left of ice cream so it resembled a boat.
Sprinkle the crushed peanuts. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the banana split. Top each flavor of ice cream with a dollop of whipped cream then place maraschino cherries on top of whipped cream. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes
- I use a small ice cream scoop in this recipe. If you use a large scoop, you can use only one scoop per ice cream flavor.
- You definitely can use aerosol whipping cream. But it’s best to make your sweetened whipping cream yourself.
- To make sweetened whipping cream: whisk 1/2 cup cold heavy cream and 1 tbsp powdered sugar until stiff peak forms.
- I use store-bought caramel sauce. You can use a homemade version if you prefer.
