Why Impossible?
The first time I knew this recipe, I was wondering what was going on with Cheeseburger Pie. Why impossible? Well, is that so hard to make or something else?
Turns out it is very effortless to make, a big portion which will make you and your big family full enough. So satisfying to eat together while enjoying some music or some nice family conversations.
On a quick note, after I read some references based on the internet, this classic cheeseburger serve in a casserole as a pie back then is derived from the popularity of a series of recipes by the Betty Crocker brand in the 1970s. Those series included “impossible” dishes like Impossible Pie, Impossible Quiche, and Impossible Cake. These recipes were given the name “impossible” because they appeared to create their own crust or base during baking without the need for a separate pastry.
As we know that the fact that the pie seemingly creates its own crust as it bakes without the need for a separate pastry crust. It becomes a story of The concept behind Impossible Cheeseburger Pie and other “impossible” dishes is that the batter, while liquid at the beginning, solidifies and transforms into a crust-like texture as it bakes, giving the appearance of a pie or quiche with a built-in crust.
So, The name “Impossible Cheeseburger Pie” specifically indicates that this version of the “Impossible Pie” is inspired by the flavors of a cheeseburger. It combines the elements of a cheeseburger but changes it into a pie-like dish with a crust-like base created by the baking process.
Actually, it is not hard, my impossible cheeseburger may be a little bit burnt, but I love the crusts like that lol. So, Let’s jump to the recipe!
Ingredients of Impossible Cheeseburger Pie
- Ground Beef; I use 85% lean, but any variety will work. It adds a savory flavor and protein to the dish
- Onion; adds moisture and aromatic flavor
- Garlic; Garlic enhances the savory flavor profile of the dish. It adds a distinct and aromatic taste same as onion, just make sure not too much
- Salt and Pepper; To enhance the other flavors in the dish
- Cheddar Cheese; Cheddar cheese is a rich and flavorful cheese that melts well. It adds a creamy and cheesy element to the dish. you can substitute it with another type of good melting cheese.
- Milk; to thin the batter
- Egg; give the filling structure
Bisquick
- All-purpose Flour; All-purpose flour is a versatile flour used in baking. It helps to bind the ingredients and contributes to the structure of the dish.
- Baking Powder; a leavening agent that helps the batter rise and creates a light and fluffy texture in the crust
- Salt
- Unsalted Butter (cold); to create a flaky texture when combined with flour and other dry ingredients. Also, you can also buy an instant bisquick as an alternative.
How to Make Impossible Cheeseburger Pie
To make it easy, I divided it into two big steps, first, preparing the Bisquick, and second one, arrange the cheeseburger pie in one.
Bisquick
Begin by preparing the Bisquick. In a mixing bowl, sieve the all-purpose flour to ensure a smooth texture.
Next, add the baking powder and salt to the flour, and mix everything until well combined. Now, grate the cold unsalted butter into the flour mixture, and using a pastry blender or fork, mix until the butter is evenly distributed and the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set this aside for later use.
Impossible Cheeseburger Pie
Move to Impossible cheeseburger pie, start with Preheat oven to 400℉. ensuring it reaches the desired temperature for baking.
Next, In a skillet, cook the chopped onions with the ground beef until the onions turn translucent and the beef browns deliciously. Incorporate the minced garlic, along with salt and pepper, to infuse the beef mixture with irresistible flavors. Sauté for approximately 3 minutes, allowing the ingredients to meld together beautifully.
After that, Transfer the flavorful beef mixture to a casserole dish, spreading it evenly to form the base layer. Also, generously sprinkle grated cheddar cheese on top, creating a luscious cheesy layer that will melt and tantalize the taste buds.
Assembling batter and baking Pie
In a separate bowl, vigorously whisk together the Bisquick mixture with milk and eggs until it becomes a smooth and velvety texture.
Then, Pour the prepared batter evenly over the beef and cheese layers in the casserole dish, ensuring every corner is coated with the mixture.
Please be carefully place the assembled pie into the preheated oven and bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until the crust achieves a golden brown color,
After baking, remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Sprinkle the freshly chopped parsley over the pie, adding a touch of freshness, vibrant color, and a hint of herbaceous flavor. Serve this mouthwatering dish while it’s still warm

Impossible Cheeseburger Pie
Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground Beef
- ½ Onion chopped
- 3 clove Garlic
- 1 tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Pepper
- 1 cup Cheddar Cheese
- 1 cup Milk
- 3 Egg
Bisquick
- 1 cup All-purpose Flour
- 1½ tsp Baking Powder
- ¼ tsp Salt
- 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter cold
Instructions
Bisquick

To a mixing bowl, sieve all-purpose flour, then add baking powder and salt. Mix until well combined. Grate the cold butter into a flour mixture, mix using a pastry blender or fork. Set aside.
Impossible cheeseburger pie

Preheat oven to 400℉.

Cook onion with ground beef until the onion is translucent and the beef is browned.Add minced garlic, salt, and pepper, and cook again for about 3 minutes.

Spread beef mixture to a casserole, and topped it with cheddar cheese.

Whisk bisquick with milk and eggs until well combined. Pour the bisquick mixture evenly over the beef mixture and cheese, and bake for 30 minutes.

Sprinkle it with fresh parsley. Serve while still warm. Enjoy!
