What team are you? sticky crispy chicken or crispy chicken and dip into the sauce? Today I’ll tell you why Korean fried chicken is the bomb and by step-by-step guide to make these combo honey garlic crispy chicken and Yeongnyam chicken in my previous recipe!

If you’ve ever binged a K-drama, you’ve probably seen that late-night scene where friends laugh, crispy fried chicken in hand, and ice-cold beer on the table. That’s the magic of Korean fried chicken, or chimaek (chicken + maekju, aka beer). It’s more than food; it’s a vibe, a whole cultural experience.

Most people already know the hype around Yangnyeom Chicken, but today, let’s switch things up and talk about its sweeter, stickier bestie: Honey Garlic Crispy Chicken. Both of them are soulmate! Think golden crunchy chicken, drenched in glossy honey-garlic glaze that’s equal parts sweet, savory, and dangerously addictive. The chicken stays juicy on the inside and super crispy on the outside, all coated in a glossy honey-garlic glaze that’s sweet, savory, and irresistible. Pair it with fluffy rice, or add chewy Korean rice cakes (tteok) for an extra treat; it’s comfort food you’ll keep coming back to.

Why Korean Fried Chicken is the bomb?

Have you ever wondered why Korean Fried Chicken (a.k.a. KFC) is such a hit worldwide? Here’s the secret behind its irresistible charm:

First, it’s all about the double-frying technique. Unlike other fried chicken styles, Korean fried chicken is fried twice—once to cook the chicken through, and again to achieve an incredibly crisp, golden crust. This makes it stay crunchy for longer, even when it’s drenched in sauce.

Second, the coating is light yet shatteringly crisp. Thanks to potato starch or rice flour in the batter, you don’t get a heavy breaded crust. Instead, you get that addictive, airy crunch with every bite.

Third, the sauce is the superstar. From sweet soy garlic to the fiery-sweet yangnyeom glaze, each bite balances spicy, sweet, tangy, and savory flavors. The sticky glaze clings to every crispy nook and cranny of the chicken, absolutely heavenly.

Finally, it’s about the vibe. Eating Korean fried chicken is more than just food—it’s an experience. Whether it’s shared with family, enjoyed as binge watching, it brings comfort and fun to the table.

Pro Tips for the Best KFC (Korean Fried Chicken)

  • Brine the chicken: A simple brine of salt, pepper, garlic, and egg helps lock in moisture and flavor before frying.
  • Use potato starch: This gives that ultra-crisp finish. The batter should feel just right—not too thick, not too runny.
  • Double fry: Fry once at 350°F (175°C) for 5–6 minutes, let it rest, then fry again at 375°F (190°C) for another 2 minutes. This technique drives out extra moisture and maximizes crunch.

My Korean food journey

If you ask me what my favorite K-food is, unfortunately, I can’t give you a straight answer—because honestly, all of them are delicious! For me, food is personal and subjective. It really depends on what mood you’re in and, let’s be real, what your stomach is craving at the moment lol.

Some days I want something comforting like a steaming hot bowl of kimchi jjigae, other times I’m all about crunchy Korean corn dogs dripping with cheese. Then there are moments when I crave bold flavors, so relatable, right?

Eating K-food feels like joining a whole experience, whether it’s sharing a big plate with friends or enjoying it solo while binge-watching your favorite drama.

Ingredients of Honey Garlic Crispy Chicken

Marinate Chicken

Honey Garlic Crispy Chicken is the perfect Korean fried chicken recipe! Crispy double fried chicken coated in sticky honey garlic sauce!
  • Chicken Thigh Fillet, Cubed – Thighs are perfect here because they stay juicy even after frying. Cubing them makes sure each piece gets evenly coated and glazed.
  • Soy Sauce – Adds that salty, umami depth and helps season the chicken all the way through.
  • Oyster Sauce – Slightly sweet, rich, and savory—it boosts the marinade with extra flavor.
  • Garlic Powder – Easy way to infuse garlicky notes without burning fresh garlic during frying.
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper – Adds a mild heat and rounds out the flavors of the marinade.

Glaze

  • Soy Sauce – The salty, umami backbone of the honey garlic glaze.
  • Honey – Sticky, sweet, and caramel-like—this is what gives the chicken its glossy coating.
  • Garlic, Minced – Brings out that bold garlicky punch that makes this dish addictive.
  • Unsalted Butter – Makes the glaze silky and glossy while balancing the sharpness of soy and garlic.

Other

  • Potato Starch – The secret to Korean fried chicken crunch! It creates that light, shatteringly crispy coating.
  • Boiled Tteok / Rice Cake (Optional) – A fun Korean twist! Fry them along with the chicken and toss in the glaze. They get chewy on the inside, slightly crispy outside, and soak up all that sweet-savory sauce.

How to Make Honey Garlic Crispy Chicken

Honey Garlic Crispy Chicken is the perfect Korean fried chicken recipe! Crispy double fried chicken coated in sticky honey garlic sauce!

First, in a bowl, combine all the marinated chicken ingredients and let them rest for at least 30 minutes. This step makes the chicken flavorful all the way through.

Next, while the chicken is marinating, prepare the glaze. Melt butter in a pan over medium heat, then sauté the minced garlic until fragrant.

Then, add soy sauce and honey to the pan. Stir and let the sauce bubble until slightly thickened. Once it’s glossy and smooth, turn off the heat and set aside.

Meanwhile, heat cooking oil in a wok or deep pan over medium heat. Coat the marinated chicken cubes with potato starch, shaking off any excess. Fry until the chicken is golden brown and crispy.

After frying, transfer the chicken to a cooling rack to drain excess oil. This step keeps the crust crunchy.

Finally, toss the crispy chicken and optional boiled tteok into the honey garlic glaze until every piece is perfectly coated. Serve hot, sprinkle with sesame seeds or chopped scallions if you like, and enjoy!
