Nasi Goreng or fried rice is one of Indonesia's national cuisines. Nasi goreng is second place on the list of '50 Most Delicious Foods in the World' after rendang.

Nasi Goreng – Indonesian fried rice is one of our national cuisines. It has second place on the list of ’50 Most Delicious Foods in the World’ after rendang. Almost all foreign artists that come to Indonesia said their favorite food in Indonesia is nasi goreng. Even former President Obama ate this food when he visited Indonesia.

Indonesians almost eat rice in every meals. Quick and easy, nasi goreng is a great way to use some leftover cooked rice and vegetables. Oddly enough, at home fried rice is served for breakfast, but people sell it at night. Sweet, spicy and savory is the reasons why everyone likes it.

In this recipe, I made Indonesian fried rice with shredded chicken and scramble egg, but you can change it with shrimp, meat, sausage, bacon, or sunny side up.

How to make nasi goreng:

Grind shallots, garlic, chilli pepper, shrimp paste and salt until smooth and evenly mix.

Heat oil in a wok over medium heat. Add the spice mix and stir fry for about 2 minutes. Add eggs and stir until become scramble egg. Add shredded chicken, chilli pepper and rice to the scramble egg. Stir until evenly mix. Lastly add black pepper, salt, sweet soy sauce and bokcoy. Serve and garnish with tomato and cucumber. Enjoy!
