So, What is Sütlaç? Sütlaç A Turkish Rice Pudding, also known as Fırın Sutlaç, is a baked rice pudding that originates from Turkey. To make it, short-grain rice and milk are cooked together on the stove in a large pot until thick and creamy. This famous dessert in Turkish cuisine can be cooked on the stove or in the oven. If cooked on the hob, it should be cooked over medium heat in a large saucepan. Once cooked, it is chilled in the fridge for a few hours before serving.
The ingredients of Sütlaç typically include rice, milk, and sugar, and add cinnamon, vanilla, or rose water as a topping flavor. After baking in the oven, it develops a golden crust on top.

One such holiday is Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting in the Islamic calendar. During this holiday, sütlaç is often served as part of the festive meal. In addition, Sütlaç – A Turkish Rice Pudding usually shows up on holidays and special occasions such as weddings, family gatherings, and religious celebrations.

How to Make Sütlaç – A Turkish Rice Pudding
To begin, rinse the rice in cold water and drain it well. You can cook the rice first or you can combine rice with other ingredients.
First step, in a bowl, combine milk, heavy cream, vanilla essence, and salt. Add the sugar mixture and stir well to combine.
And then, In a separate small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch with 3 tbsp of the milk mixture. Set aside.
Continue cooking the mixture of rice and water over low-medium heat until the water has evaporated and the rice is cooked. Keep stirring constantly and frequently until it thickens and reaches a pudding-like consistency (about 25-30 minutes). Be sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the pan regularly to prevent the pudding from burning.
Thicken Texture of Turkish Rice Pudding
Once the pudding has thickened, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and ground cinnamon. If you like, you can also add a tablespoon of rose water for extra flavor (optional)

- 40 g White Rice
- 1⅕ cup Water
- 1½ cup Milk
- ½ cup Heavy Cream
- ½ cup Granulated Sugar
- ½ tbsp Vanilla Essence
- 1½ tbsp Cornstarch
- Pinch of Salt
- Cinnamon Powder for garnish
