In Indonesia there are two types of martabak, martabak manis and martabak telor. This time I will tell/share you about how to make chocolate peanut martabak at home. I will let you know how to make martabak telor later in the future.

Martabak manis or called kue bandung dan terang bulan or Hok Lo Pan means “cakes made by Hok Lo people”. Martabak is a typical food from Bangka Belitung, Indonesia.

This Martabak made with flour, egg, granulated sugar, vanilli, baking powder, salt, and water. For topping I used chocolate sprinkles and crushed toasted peanuts. I have several recommendation for topping. You can use cheese, strawberry jam, sliced banana, etc.

I like martabak so much because it has a sweet taste and a soft texture like pancakes. If you craving for this chocolate peanuts martabak you can make at home. I will tell you the technique how to make this recipe.

How to make chocolate peanut martabak:

Mix all the ingredient for the batter until smooth and evenly mix. Set aside and let it rest for 1 hour.

After 1 hour, add baking soda. mix until combined. Preheat non-stick skillet over low heat then pour the batter onto the pan. To make the side part crispy, coat the side of the pan slightly all around using ladle. When bubbles start appear, sprinkle it with granulated sugar evenly.

Cover the pan and let the pancake cook until the sides and bottom nice and golden. Transfer the pancake into a big plate and quickly spread it with butter all over.

Top with chocolate sprinkle, crushed toasted peanut and condensed milk. Cut the pancake into half then gently flip half of the pancake over the half. Spread with more butter on top of the pancake and cut into 8 pieces. Serve and enjoy!

    Assalam u Alaikum
Which Vanilla are you using because I read that vanilla essence is usually made by putting vanilla beans in alcoholic solvent which dissolves its essence so it is not halal.

Wa’alaikum salam. We use vanilla powder (artificial) because vanilla essence mostly has alcohol in it.
