Every time I start to think about this soup, I want to make it. Classic homemade chicken soup is pure comfort food. Thankfully, Chicken soup is one of the easiest soups to make.
I can’t think of a better soup to have on a frosty night or when you’re feeling under the weather. Moreover, since my country still has bad air quality and pollutants. That is so heartbreaking, still.
My husband is currently sick this week with coughing covid look like, which is keeping him feeling pretty miserable – coughing, sneezing, grumpy, etc.
My grandma made a delicious chicken soup which will I share, classic, warm, and flu-fighter because it will warm up your body. Let’s dig into the ingredients and the instructions!
Ingredients of Homemade Chicken Soup

- Chicken Breast; I have prepared this soup using chicken breasts. While there is no “wrong” chicken for chicken soup. Feel free to use any part of the chicken
- Vegetables I use are Potato (cubed), Carrot, and Cabbage; Well, to be honest, you can use any veggies you want since every country has its own version of chicken soup. As such, each version will look and taste a little different from the next. The most common vegetables, however, include a mixture of onion, celery, and tomato.
- Celery and Tomato as a garnish you will cook these at nearly the end. I like to use celery because the color sort of blends into the soup, Plus, celery is a classic flavor base for many savory things. While tomato adding Little chewy pops of concentrated savoury tomato flavour keeps it lovely bright stand out.
- Salt; Salt is an essential seasoning that enhances the natural flavors of the ingredients.
- White Pepper; To make this chicken soup mild and homey-feeling yet safe for sick or sensitive people, I use white pepper instead of black pepper
- Nutmeg Powder; Nutmeg adds a warm and slightly nutty aroma to your chicken soup.
- Garlic and Shallot Paste; Truly the best when you’re sick. Garlic is full of anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Water; If you want a richer bold taste, I recommend you to use chicken broth because it makes the soup nice and rich. However, because I wanted this chicken soup “clean and light” I used water
- Fried Shallot; Use as garnish topped above chicken soup Fried shallots add a final touch of texture, flavor, and visual appeal to your soup. Plus, it provides a crispy contrast to the softness of the other ingredients
How To Make Homemade Chicken Soup

Begin by cutting the carrot, potato, cabbage, celery stick, and tomato into bite-sized pieces. Set these ingredients aside, creating a colorful array of vegetables ready to infuse your soup with flavor and nutrition.
Secondly, Transition to the heart of the dish, gently simmer chicken breast in a pot until it’s tender and fully cooked. I turn the chicken into shredded one, you can make the chicken into a whole or like me. Once done, remove it to cool, preserving its succulence for the final soup.
Next, prepare a large pot, where flavors will blend harmoniously. add water or you can use chicken broth, salt, white pepper, nutmeg, garlic paste, and shallot paste. This medley lays the foundation for a complex yet soothing broth.
Third, as the broth simmers, add chopped carrot, potato, and celery to infuse their essence. These vegetables, gradually meld into a chorus of tastes and textures until tender.

Fourth, when the veggies are tender already, Return the chicken breast and shred it into tender pieces. insert the shredded chicken into the pot, enriching the broth with its savory character.
Fifth, for nearly the last step, insert cabbage and tomato. Stirring gently, lets the ingredients harmonize, creating a flavorful ensemble.

Finally, turn off the heat, and with a flourish, add fried shallot for a delightful crunch and flavor contrast, crowning your creation and also as garnish and some homey smells.

Chicken Soup
Ingredients
- 1½ lb Chicken Breast
- 1 cup Potato cubed
- 1 cup Carrot
- 1 cup Cabbage
- 1½ cup Celery Stick
- 1 Tomato
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp White Pepper
- ¼ tsp Nutmeg Powder
- ½ tbsp Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp Shallot Paste
- 1 l Water
- 1 tbsp Fried Shallot
Instructions

Cut carrot, potato, cabbage, celery stick, and tomato into a bite-sized. Set aside.

Boil the breast chicken in a pot over medium heat until cooked through. Set aside and let it cool.

In another big pot, pour water and add salt, pepper, nutmeg, garlic paste, and shallot paste. Add in chopped carrot, potato, and celery stick and cook until tender.

While the vegetables are boiled, shred the chicken breast then add in to the pot with cabbage and tomato. Stir and boil again for about 10 minutes.

Turn off the heat then sprinkle the soup with fried shallot and the chicken soup is ready to serve. Enjoy!
