Ingredients of Spinach Cheese Puff Triangle
- sheet of Puff Pastry; Thaw on the bench for a few minutes before using to make them easier to fold and seal in triangle shapes. You can use Frozen puff pastry as well, defrost it according to the package instructions and roll it if necessary.
- Garlic and Onion; adds a pungent and aromatic flavour to the filling, enhancing the overall taste. Substitution: If you prefer a milder taste, you can use garlic powder or omit it altogether.
- Spinach; This is the main ingredient, For fresh spinach, roughly chop the leaves and thinly slice the stems, then blanch for a minute or two in boiling water and drain. Once cooled, squeeze out as much water as possible. You can use fresh or frozen spinach depending on what you have on hand
- Parsley chopped; Beside as garnish, this freshly chopped also will add sweet aroma when you bake spinach triangle cheese. Top it with black sesame seeds
- Lemon zest; contributes a bright and citrusy flavour. Add a little juice too to ramp up the flavour.
- Cream cheese; I use cream cheese to substitute feta cheese. Feta has a tangy, salty flavour that boosts the simplicity of the ricotta! However, If you prefer a milder flavour, you can substitute feta with goat cheese, cream cheese (like mine) or even shredded mozzarella.
- Parmesan cheese; Add finely grated Parmesan for a little extra bite to the filling flavour. It’s just a small amount, but I think it makes the spinach triangles even better.
- Egg; act as a binding agent, helping to hold the filling together and provide structure. Substitution: You can omit the eggs, but the filling may be slightly less cohesive.
- Butter; Butter is used for sauteeing the garlic and onion, adding richness and flavor.
Spices and Egg Wash
- Spices you need : fine sea salt, black pepper, nutmeg and Mushroom powder
- Egg Wash, For making Egg wash all you need is 1 small egg, a bit of milk. Egg wash is brushed on the pastry before baking to create a golden brown and shiny crust. The milk helps to thin the egg white slightly, making it easier to brush and preventing the pastry from becoming tough.
How to Make Spinach Cheese Puff Triangle
First of all, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Then, prepare a baking tray and line it with parchment paper. This will ensure the pastries bake evenly and prevent sticking.
Secondly, heat the butter in a medium pan over medium heat. Once hot, saute the onion and minced garlic until softened and translucent. Sautéing helps to develop the flavor of the onion and garlic.
Add the spinach to the pan and cook until the excess liquid is evaporated. Let it cool for 2-3 minutes before proceeding. This step concentrates the flavor of the spinach and prevents the filling from becoming soggy.
In a separate bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, parmesan cheese, and egg until well combined. Then, add the chopped parsley and grated lemon zest. Stir together until everything is incorporated. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
Mix the cheese mixture into the cooled spinach until everything is well combined.
Cut each puff pastry sheet into 4 squares. On each square, place a portion of the spinach and cheese filling in the center. Gently press down on the filling with a spoon to spread it out a little.
Fold one diagonal corner of the dough square over the filling to form a triangle. Press down gently along the edges with a fork to seal the triangle. You can also crimp the edges with the fork for a decorative touch.
Egg wash and Bake!
Arrange the filled triangles on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops of the triangles with some of the beaten egg wash. This will help create a golden brown crust.
Sprinkle the tops of the triangles with black sesame seeds, if using. Black sesame seeds add a nice visual contrast and a subtle nutty flavor.
Bake for about 15, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
Finally, let the triangles cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving. Enjoy!
Serve these delicious Spinach Cheese Puff Triangles warm and watch them disappear within minutes. Your guests will be impressed with the flavorful combination of spinach and cheese encased in a flaky puff pastry. This recipe is perfect for any occasion, from casual gatherings to holiday parties.
