Tobiko salmon mayo sandwich is a hot dog bun that sliced in the middle with tobiko and grilled salmon as filling. Surprisingly, you can find Japanese taste from tobiko and salmon in a sandwich. It is the best collaboration between western sandwich recipes with popular ingredients in Japan. Moreover, this food is practical and light. You can make and eat it without losing your worthy time!
Why should we make this healthy sandwich?
For people who don’t have enough time to eat, a sandwich is the hungry-savior. We can bring it as a practical meal during school, work, picnics, hiking, or just sightseeing. At the house, we enjoy sandwiches as a snack, main dish, or complement the main dish.
There are many kinds of sandwiches in the world. It depends on what type of bread, filling, and the mix of sauces used. Several countries have their own sandwiches with various types of bread and filling. Of course, they have their own name.
Which country do you think to have more varieties of sandwiches than others?
Yes, the answer is America. This food is popular in the countries which eat bread as comfort food like America and Europe. Some popular varieties of sandwiches from America are BLT, Cheese Sandwiches, Cheese Burger, Hot Dogs, Club Sandwiches, Hamburger, Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, Cheesesteak, and Sloppy Joe to Submarine. Also, Italy has Panini. France has Croque-Monsieur and Croque-Madame. Vietnam also has a similar sandwich called Banh Mi.
This time, I try to make it using some fillings with healthier and lower-fat ingredients than the usual sandwich. I use salmon and tobiko. These ingredients are so tasty and healthy.
The most dominant of the salmon nutrients are omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. Those are good for brain and heart health. Meanwhile, tobiko also contains high protein. Light sandwich but full of nutrients!
What ingredients do you need for tobiko salmon mayo sandwich?
It’s not about cooking, you just need to arrange the right ingredients into exotic looking food!
Here’s what you need:
Hot dog bun – you can use other kinds of bread. I like this bun for the recipe because the size is proper in a one-hand grip.
Salmon thinly sliced – come to another main ingredient in this recipe. The most nutrient ingredient in here. Remember to slice the salmon thinly!
Tobiko – actually, I use it for garnish. You can add more if you like it. Yet, you have to pay attention because it can add salty to your food.
Butter – you know why we should prepare this. It is used for our lovely bun to get the tasty bun.
Mayonnaise – adding sour into the sandwich. It always suits the sandwich.
Sriracha sauce – if you like spicy, you can add it. Sriracha is a hot sauce that consists of chilies, vinegar, garlic, sugar, and salt.
Lettuce and Chive – these are some addition to giving more texture and freshness.
Salt – you only need this part for seasoning. The other ingredients have their authentic taste without adding any spices.
Assembling sandwich time!
Firstly, slice the hot dog bun using a bread knife with a serrated edge in the middle of the bun. Then, spread butter inside the bun.
Secondly, toast the buttered side buns on a pan for a few minutes until golden brown and crispy. Set aside.
After that, sprinkle the sliced salmon with salt, then broil with a torch until the surface of the salmon caramelized.
Fourthly, mix mayonnaise and sriracha. It becomes sour and spicy sauce. You can measure the mayo and sriracha as you like.
Fifthly, placed lettuce and grill salmon into the bun. Then topped it with mayonnaise and sriracha sauce in a zig-zag way.
The finishing touch, sprinkle with tobiko and chive. It is beautiful sandwich!
