Cajun Seasoning
When we heard about Cajun is usually referring to a spice blend which originated from Acadians living in Louisiana.
The main difference between Cajun seasoning and creole seasoning in my post;
At a Glance, Cajun seasoning focuses primarily on a variety of ground peppers (white, black, and red). while, Creole seasoning commonly contains those as well but also features herbs like thyme, basil, and oregano. Rosemary and bay leaf are also often included.
While Creole and Cajun seasonings are different, they are still spicy, so look alike but not the same. I mean both of them are great!
Why Cajun shrimp fettuccine?
Why do I use cajun shrimp fettuccine, not creole? Well, mostly but not must, creole is used for chicken, and beef such as Nashville hot chicken wings, meanwhile for cajun is more suitable for noodles/ pasta.
One of the remarkable aspects of Cajun Shrimp Pasta is its well-balanced combination of flavors and textures. The al dente fettuccine pasta serves as a sturdy base, allowing the vibrant sauce and succulent shrimp to cling to each strand. The sautéed garlic and onion add a savory depth, while the diced tomatoes contribute a tangy and juicy element to the dish.
My reccomendations when serving Cajun Shrimp Pasta, it is best enjoyed immediately after preparation. The steaming hot dish showcases the harmonious marriage of flavors, allowing the cream sauce to envelop the pasta and shrimp, creating a delightful symphony of taste and texture.
Ingredients of Cajun Shrimp Fettuccine Pasta
Basic Ingredients
- Fettuccine; Fettuccine is a type of pasta that is flat and thick. It is commonly used in Italian cuisine and pairs well with creamy sauces. I like making this dish with long pasta such as spaghetti or linguini, to add a slurpy sensation ( you know what I mean), but you can use whatever you have in hand
- Shrimp; I recommend using fresh shrimp, In this recipe, shrimp is the main protein component and adds a delicious seafood element to the Cajun Shrimp Pasta. You can use fresh or frozen shrimp.
- Butter; adds richness and a smooth texture to the dish. In this recipe, butter use for sautéing the shrimp, garlic, and onion, enhancing their flavors
- Cajun seasoning; Cajun seasoning is a spice blend typically associated with the cuisine of Louisiana, USA. It adds a spicy and robust flavor to the shrimp, pasta, and sauce.
Seasonings
- Lemon juice; Lemon juice is the acidic juice extracted from lemons. It provides a tangy and refreshing flavor to dishes. In this recipe, lemon juice is used to marinate the shrimp, reducing the fishy taste of the shrimp. More than that, it added some freshness and a little bit of acidity.
- Garlic; garlic is sautéed with butter and onion, infusing the dish with its distinctive flavor, I recommend using fresh garlic if you want them to shine.
- Onion; use to create a flavorful foundation for the sauce, adding flavor and depth.
- Tomatoes; They add a bright and tangy flavor to dishes and contribute to the overall flavor profile of the sauce.
- Cooking cream; also known as heavy cream or whipping cream. It adds creaminess and richness to sauces for the pasta
- Parmesan cheese has a creamy and rich flavor comes from this cheese.
- Seasoning – Salt and black pepper to taste are all I use today. the flavor from shrimp and other ingredients already pop out, so you only need a little simple seasoning
- Parsley– Fresh and chopped up fine to be sprinkled liberally on top of our finished dish, as a garnish to add a pop of color and a hint of freshness to the final dish.
Steps to Make Cajun Shrimp Fettuccine Pasta
Start by marinating the shrimp. In a bowl, combine the shrimp with lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Allow the shrimp to marinate for about 10-15 minutes, ensuring they absorb the tangy and spicy flavors.
While the shrimp marinates, cook the fettuccine pasta. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil, then add the pasta. Cook it until al dente, following the package instructions. Once cooked, drain the pasta, and set it aside for later.
Next, In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Next, add the marinated shrimp to the skillet and cook them until they turn pink and are cooked through. This process takes approximately 2-3 minutes per side. Once cooked, remove the shrimp from the skillet, and set them aside.
Using the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Then, add the chopped garlic and sliced onion, sautéing them until they become fragrant and slightly softened. After that, introduce the diced tomatoes to the skillet and continue sautéing for a few more minutes. The garlic, onion, and tomatoes release their flavors, enhancing the overall taste of the dish.
Pour the cooking cream into the skillet with the sautéed garlic, onion, and tomatoes. Add 2 tablespoons of Cajun seasoning and the Parmesan cheese. Stir well to combine all the ingredients. Then, cook the sauce over medium heat until it thickens to your desired consistency. The creamy sauce binds all the flavors together, creating a rich and velvety texture.
Final Touch
Now, it’s time to bring everything together. Add fettuccine pasta to the skillet with the creamy sauce, ensuring that mix well. Gently stir to combine the pasta and sauce, allowing them to meld together.
Season the pasta and shrimp mixture with a pinch of salt and pepper, adjusting to taste. Then, add the cooked shrimp back into the skillet, gently stirring to distribute them evenly throughout the dish.
Finally, garnish the Cajun Shrimp Pasta with fresh parsley, adding a pop of color and a touch of freshness. Serve the Cajun Shrimp Pasta immediately to enjoy its vibrant flavors and satisfying combination of shrimp, creamy sauce, and perfectly cooked pasta
