Ingredients to Make Ground Beef Lettuce Wrap
- Ground beef; This is the base of the filling, giving it a deliciously meaty flavor and a good protein boost that makes these Thai lettuce wraps satisfying and filling. I used 85% lean. It has the ideal fat-to-meat ratio for a juicy and flavorful filling.
- Romain Lettuce; These crispy and tender lettuce leaves are the perfect vessels for holding the filling. You won’t be able to get enough of these lettuce wraps,: you can also use romaine Boston Bibb Lettuce or iceberg lettuce leaves. The lettuce leaves serve as the wraps, providing a crisp and fresh base for your filling.
- Spring onion thinly sliced; For some extra savory goodness.
- Aromatics Garlic and Ginger grated; Adds a savory and robust taste that kicks the filling up a notch and makes it seriously mouthwatering. Also, Grating ginger brings a zesty and slightly spicy kick to the filling, giving it that special flavor. It also reduces the fishy of beef.
- Onion sliced; These little pieces of onion add a sweet and crunchy bite to the filling. Use yellow or red for a stronger oniony flavor or white for a lighter bite.
- Veggie filling; Here, I use Red bell pepper, Green Bell Pepper diced, and Cherry tomatoes cut into 4 pieces but this is optional, feel free to add tomatoes for more bursting flavour. Mushrooms, and lastly Carrot sliced; These thinly sliced carrots not only add a vibrant pop of color but also a satisfying crunch!
- Notes; Feel free to swap in other veggies. Favorites include zucchini, summer squash, and cauliflower.

For the Sauce:
- Soy sauce; Works as the base of the Thai lettuce wrap sauce. For more authentic flavor, try using Thai black soy sauce. You can find it online or at your local Asian grocer!
- Sesame oil; Makes the sauce rich and nutty. : I like to use this as my cooking oil instead of olive or avocado oil because it perfectly complements the Asian flavors in the dish. However, any cooking oil will work.
- Hoisin Sauce; lends a savory flavor,
- Rice Vinegar; The acidity in this ingredient brightens up the rest of our ingredients, maximizing the delicious flavors. In a pinch, you can swap in white vinegar or even some lime juice.
- Brown Sugar; For the perfect touch of sweet, caramelized flavor! Feel free to swap the sweetener with honey or regular sugar.
- Sweet Chilli sauce; for a spicier taste, change the sauce into chili flakes
- Cooking oil; for stir-frying the ground beef and filling, you can use avocado, sesame oil, or any high smoke point oil.
- Beef powder, Salt, and black pepper are basic seasonings that add an extra layer of flavor to the filling.
- Sesame seeds – a sprinkling of these will add more crunch and nutty flavor to the wraps.
How to Make Ground Beef Lettuce Wrap

Cooking Beef mixture
Begin by heating a touch of oil in a pan over medium heat. Allow the oil to shimmer slightly, indicating that it’s ready for cooking.

Once the oil is heated, add the minced garlic and sliced onions to the pan. Sauté them until the fragrant aroma.
Next, Add the sliced mushrooms and carrots to the pan, creating a vibrant and colorful medley. Then, Sauté until the mushrooms release their moisture, and the carrots begin to soften slightly, enhancing the overall texture.

Second big step is introducing the star of the dish, the ground beef, to the pan. Alongside the beef, add the grated ginger, red and yellow bell peppers. Stir the mixture, allowing the flavors to meld and the beef to brown beautifully.
Then, season with soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sweet chili sauce, beef powder, pinch of salt and pepper. And keep stirring and cook until done each ingredient is coated in the savory blend.

Sprinkle sliced spring onion over the mixture, then stir again.
As a finishing touch, sprinkle finely sliced spring onions over the mixture. The green onions add a burst of freshness and a mild onion flavor, balancing the richness of the beef.
Assemble and Enjoy!

To serve, arrange the romaine lettuce leaves on a platter, creating a crisp and refreshing base for the flavorful beef mixture.
Sprinkle diced tomatoes over the beef mixture, providing a juicy and tangy contrast to the savory filling.
Your vibrant and delicious ground beef lettuce wraps are now ready to be served! Present the platter with a flourish, showcasing the colorful and appetizing combination of flavors.

Storing tips;
The sauce for ground beef lettuce wraps can be made up to 24 hours in advanced and stored in a sealed container in the fridge. It may even taste better stored overnight to allow the flavors to mellow and blend together.
You can absolutely make ahead of time. You can make the filling for the lettuce wraps up to 3 to 4 days in advance and store it in an airtight bag or container in the fridge until you’re ready to put together the wraps. I would not recommend storing the filling with the lettuce, as the lettuce will get soggy pretty quickly.

You can also freeze this dish, but I keep recommend you to serve and consume it immediately. For freezing this dish Simply allow it to cool down to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight bag or container, then store it in the freezer for up to 4 months.
Recipe Notes;

- If you prefer your meals with a kick, you can add finely chopped red chilies or crushed red pepper flakes to the ground beef mixture as you saute it. You could also drizzle sriracha over the lettuce wraps just before serving them.
- Let the sauce work its magic. Once the beef is cooked, the next step is glazing it with a delectable Asian sauce. Let the sauce and beef simmer until it has thickened and clinging on to each beefy morsel for an explosion of sweet, savory, meaty filling for this Asian lettuce wrap recipe.
- Allow the ground beef to cook undisturbed for a few minutes after breaking into pieces when cooking. This allows the pieces to brown nicely and have crisp edges. If you move the meat around in the pan too much, it will steam rather than sear.
- For a fun flavor twist, try substituting the gochujang with Thai red curry paste and 1 Tbsp. of the soy sauce with fish sauce.
